DIG for steps to ensure road users’ safety

rawalpindi - DIG National Highway and Motorway Police North Zone, Ashraf Zubair Saddiqui has directed the officers to adopt indiscriminate enforcement and tangible measures for the safety and security of the road users.

“All available resources must be used to control accidents,” he said while addressing to the participants of operational meeting held here yesterday. The meeting was attended by sector commanders, DSPs, operational officers and field staff.

DIG Ashraf Zubair directed the officers to provide prompt help to the distressed road users and deal with them politely as this is the hallmark of motorway police. He further directed that motorcyclists would not be allowed to ply on GT Road without wearing safety helmet. He added that stern enforcement should be ensured against the underage drivers, and those drivers who do not fasten seat belt and use mobile phone while driving.

He informed that motorcycle rickshaw will be allowed only in city area on GT Road. He further informed that night vision speed checking systems have been provided to the field staff and speed checking squads have started effective speed checking at night.

The DIG directed sector commanders as well as beat commanders to involve local administrations and TMA for the removal of encroachments alongside the GT Road. At the end, he directed the sector commanders to identify required road furniture and road work and coordinate with NHA for the speedy completion of the road work.
