KASUR-The government should issue health cards and arrange for group insurance for at least 100 to 125 journalists in every district to ensure welfare of this deprived community.

The mediamen stated at a gathering held to highlight rights of the journalists here the other day.

They said that Khidmat Cards are being issued to the disabled and needy persons to provide them quality healthcare facilities, which is a laudable step by the government. But the government should also pay attention to the miseries of the journalists and provide their due rights, especially in far-off areas of the country.

They regretted that the journalists, serving in far-off and conflict areas, are compelled to spend miserable lives. They do not even have enough money to pay for health services and educate their children properly. Different organisations receive money from the journalists for the issuance of security cards and then received supplementary fees after every two or three months.

On the occasion, former PML-N district secretary information said that the journalists are discharging their responsibilities proactively, adding that with due attention, the government can bring in happiness in their lives.

He demanded the government to ensure implementation of laws pertaining to the rights and welfare of the mediamen to ensure welfare of the media men.

He also demanded Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to issue health cards and arrange for group insurance of at least 100 to 125 journalists in every district to mitigate their sufferings.
