The prime suspect in social activist Parveen Rehman’s murder case, Raheem Swati has been arrested, Karachi Police said in an official statement.

Following the orders by Supreme Court of Pakistan, a special police team was established under SP Orangi and SSP West as a supervisor of the investigation team.

According to the police sources Swati had eight mobile SIMs which he used at different times but most of the time they weren’t operational.

After getting a tip, the police team raided on a location at Manghopir Area in Karachi.

“Swati was arrested after the operation with 9-MM pistol and a hand grenade in his possession,” police sources stated.

Parveen Rehman , a media-shy social activist, who had been working for the development of impoverished neighborhoods across the country, had been shot dead on March 13, 2013.

The next day, police killed a TTP leader named Qari Bilal in an encounter and closed the case.
