LAHORE - Unidentified motorcyclists yesterday shot and killed a 45-year-old man at his doorstep in the Defense Housing Authority. The attackers fled instantly.
Investigators identified the victim as Ahsan Umar Rana, a resident of (W-block) DHA. The body was moved to the morgue for an autopsy.
The motives behind the fatal shooting were not clear yet. Police sources said two gunmen killed the man on offering resistance during a robbery attempt. A police officer said the gunmen were chasing the car-rider on a motorcycle.
As Rana, reached his house in the evening two motorcyclists approached him. They held him up at gunpoint and demanded cash and valuables. As the man tried to overpower the bandits, they shot him dead and fled on their two-wheeler.
The gunmen had escaped when the police response units reached the crime scene. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced as brought dead. The police handed over the body to the family after the autopsy.
Police official Muhammad Tariq told The Nation that a murder case was registered against unidentified killers and the police are investigating the murder case. No arrest was made yet.
Mugging and armed robberies are common in the elite housing society– DHA – where a good number of well-trained private guards are hired by the authority for the security. Dozens of police patrol units are also unable to control street crime in the posh locality.
ROOF COLLAPSED: Five people of a family were wounded seriously when the roof of a house collapsed on them in Mohlanwal early yesterday.
Rescue workers shifted the injured to the Jinnah hospital. An official said the house was in dilapidated condition. The condition of the wounded was said to be out of danger yesterday night. Further investigation was underway.
