islamabad - Vowing to take up the issue of the FATA teachers on the floor of both the houses, Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Sirajul Haq has said that protest of teachers during the period of democratic government is a black spot on the face of democracy.

The teachers from the Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) have been boycotting their classes and protesting in front of Islamabad Press Club against Fata Secretariat and SAFRON ministry for not upgrading them at a time when the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had upgraded its teachers in 2012.

The JI chief visited the protesting teachers yesterday to show solidarity with them. He said the teachers have been protesting for the last 17 days but it has not moved the government. The SAFRON minister had promised the teachers to fulfil their demands last year at the same place but it is shameful that their issue is still pending, he said.

The people of tribal area have always sacrificed for the country but the rulers have always ditched them, he said.

The tribal belt does neither have any medical college and university, nor has the government announced any project for the tribal people in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

When the people would not get their due right even after protests, they will be compelled to follow the footsteps of terrorist and extremists, he warned. The policies of the government are based on terrorist and extremist ideologies, he said.  “If the issue is not resolved, the party along with other parties will take step to resolve it and the government will itself be responsible for any unpleasant situation.”

Replying to media queries regarding Panama Leaks he said, the revelations of Panama about offshore companies brought bad name to the country and not only Prime Minister’s family but also all those who have offshore assets must be enquired.

Rejection of the ToRs by the interior minister without reading them makes the matter sceptical, he said. The decision of the government to negotiate with the opposition on the matter was a tactic to prolong the issue, he said.
