Rs 2.5m sought for each deceased miner

LAHORE - The members of working class has expressed deep grief over the tragic mine accident in Balochistan killing 23 coal miners.

In a statement issued here Sunday, Khurshid Ahmad General Secretary, Rubeena Jamil President, Osama Tariq Secretary of the All Pakistan Workers Confederation, said the tragic accident had taken place due to negligence of the private employees of mine contractor and the provincial government of Balochistan for violation of coal mines safety regulations and ILO Convention.

They demanded at least Rs 2.5million compensation to the families of the deceased miners. They said that coal mines of Balochistan had been declared the most dangerous in the world causing tragic accidents and occupational disease of mines due to unsafe working conditions. They demanded to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the chief minister of Balochistan to order a Judicial Enquiry Commission in this regard.
