Lyari Development Package reviewed

KARACHI (APP) - The progress of schemes under multi-million rupees Lyari Development Package was reviewed at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Sindh Minister for Katchi Abadis Engr Mohammed Rafiq here Friday. The meeting was attended by ACS (Development) Munawar Opel, Project Director Shafiq-ur - Rehman Paracha, PD Medical College Dr. Hasan Dost Afridi, Town Nazim Mahmood Hashim and officials of Planning and Development, Health, Education, Works and Services departments. The meeting was informed that Lyari Develoment Package for fiscal 2008-09 was for Rs 500 million whereunder roads, water and sewerage schemes were completed while Rs 870 million was allocated for the year 2009-10. Of this amount Rs 300 million have been earmarked for new schemes and Rs 570 million for ongoing works. Government is providing funds for roads, water, sewerage, health and education schemes on which work is speedily progressing. Addressing the officials Rafiq Engineer pointed out that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had taken practical steps for development of Lyari and now it was President Asif Ali Zardari who is also taking keen interest. He directed that legal process for Lyari University be initiated, development of Lyari General Hospital be started for Medical College and phase of admission of 100 students in Ayaz Sammo Nursing Institute be taken up. He said that while specially focussing on health and education in Lyari, two schemes of each MPA under MPAs Priority Programme have been completed this year while plan is about to start to improve the condition of schools. The Minister informed that practical steps are being taken to introduce modern day trades in polytechnic institutes besides focussing on girls education and technical education. He said that a PC-1 for procuring modern machinery worth Rs 30 million will soon be sent to Planning and Development Department. ACS Munawar Opel directed the officials to send the review report about progress of ongoing development schemes and proposed PC-1 be sent to P and D Department so that required funds are released.
