RAWALPINDI The Anti-Corruption (AC) Department Rawalpindi on Friday took into custody record of Dr Mubeen Akhter and a quack Syed Salahuddin from Holy Family Hospital (HFH), yet broadening the interrogation the scam of fake doctors appointments in District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital. A senior official of the Anti-Corruption Department, seeking anonymity, also confirmed that a team went to HFH and obtained record of the said persons for further investigation. Sources within the hospital disclosed to TheNation that a team of Anti-Corruption Department came to HFH and held necessary record of Dr Mubeen Akhter, who did house job in the hospital for six months. The team also got record of Syed Salahuddin, one of the fake doctors who did dispenser course from HFH in 2000-01, the sources added. They said Dr Mubeen was given house job against the merit by the HFH Medical Superintendent (MS) on February 1, 2009 on the directive of Allied Hospital and Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) Principal Dr Musaddiq Khan. As per practice, only those doctors are eligible for house jobs in any teaching hospital who clear MBBS and come on merit, but those who cannot qualify write a letter to MS of hospital concerned for this purpose after recommendation of professor of the concerned department where he/she wants to do house job. But as well as Dr Mubeen Akhters case was concerned, she was given house job in the Eye Department of HFH on recommendation of RMC Principal Dr Musaddiq Khan, which was not needed. In such cases, only recommendation of the professor of the department concerned was enough, while the MS was the only authority to induct her as house jobber. Later, Dr Musaddiq Khan directed former MS DHQ Khalid Iqbal Malik to appoint Dr Mubeen Akhter as Women Medical Officer in DHQ, who (Khalid) obeyed his order. Later, Dr Khalid Maliks fear of accountability ended and he started employing even fake doctors in the hospital, the sources claimed. Dr Mubeen Akhter has been living in HFH Hostel, despite the fact that her house job was finished on July 31, 2009 and was enjoying all facilities so far, as she had links with some influential at AHs and RMC, the sources added. Meanwhile, Allied Hospitals (AHs) and Rawalpindi Medical College (RMC) Principal Dr Musaddiq Khan and Acting Medical Superintendent (MS) of DHQ Dr Ijaz Suhail appeared before a high-level inquiry committee probing into fake doctors appointment and recorded their statements. Sources which were present during the inquiry at Punjab House told TheNation that the committee first summoned DHQ MS Dr Ijaz Suhail and recorded his statement. The committee also thoroughly checked the documents provided by Dr Ijaz Suhail regarding fake doctors. Later, AHs and RMC Principal Dr Musaddiq Khan appeared before the inquiry committee and claimed that none of the illegal appointments of doctors and quacks at DHQ Hospital was made through his office. Dr Mussadiq also told the committee that his office had no record regarding appointments of unqualified persons as medical officers or illegal appointments of doctors at DHQ Hospital. RMC Principal further told the committee that former MS DHQ Dr Khalid Iqbal Malik sent recommendation letters of fake doctors to Health Department and in return Punjab Health Department appointed all of them and did not send any copy of their appointment to his office.
