ISLAMABAD Shahzad Azams stunning 11 wicket haul led hosts Islamabad to a big innings and 70 runs win against Faisalabad in the four-day Quaid-e-Azam Trophy fixture here at Diamond Club Ground on Friday. Shehzad, who claimed four wickets in the first innings and seven in the second innings, pounced on the opposition batting line and bundled them for 106 in their second innings. He conceded just 34 runs for his seven wickets. Faisalabad required 176 runs to avoid the follow-on on the last day of the match but they wasted all their 10 wicket adding only 105 runs in their second innings. Imran Ali was top score with 20 runs for Faisalabad. He hit four boundaries. Top order batsman failed to show impressive performance. SNGPL maul clueless KRL Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) sealed a comprehensive six-wicket win in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy cricket match against Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) at KRL Stadium, Rawalpindi. SNGPL were just 70 runs away from victory, as they were eyeing the target of 87 runs. Mohammad Hafeez 12 and Imran Ali 0 reopened the second innings at 16 for 2, as both the batsmen aggregated 60 runs for the third wicket. Hafeez scored 52 runs while Imran Ali remained not out on 22. Hafeez hit nine fours during his 102 minutes innings and he faced 71 balls. Skipper of the winning team Misbah-ul-Haq also remained not out on six runs. ZTBL resumed their innings at 91 for five and added 149 runs to register victory. Sarmad Ali was the most successful bowler who claimed two scalps in the first innings, finished with bowling figures of 6 wickets for 70 runs. Kamran Hussain supported Sarmad well by getting three wickets, as he conceded 38 runs in 10 overs. Shahid Yousaf 22, Zohaib Khan 21, Rehan Riaz 18 not out, Muhammad Khalil 15 and Kashif Daud 15 were the main scorers for ZTBL. Test batsman Imran Nazir could score just 13 runs, as he had scored 27 in the first innings. Wapda register crushing win against PIA Wapda defeated PIA with a comprehensive margin 141 runs in the fifth round Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Friday. The Wapda bowling attack ripped apart the PIA batting dismissing them for 137 ensuring win for their team in 58.5 overs. Facing an uphill task to save the contest, Multan resumed at overnight total of 99 for three, still 216 runs needed to avoid defeat but fell just 26 runs short of the target needed to register an upset win. Multans Ali Niazi (77) and first innings century maker Naveed Yasin (84) sent shivers down Karachi spine with superb fight back that almost turned the tables on the home team which had turned the game in their favour while scoring big 377 in first knock and bowling the opponents out for low 229 in reply. Multan resumed second knock at overnight total of 99 for three with the hope that Ramiz Alam with unbeaten 58 at the crease would lead Multans fight back. The batsman lasted only seventeen balls and left adding three runs to his overnight score. It was a big set back for Multan. However, when Ali Niazi was joined by Naveed Yasin at the crease, Multan hopes were revived. The two batted with confidence to thwart Karachi efforts to hasten Multans defeat. They batted on and added 146 for fifth wicket stand that extended duration of Multan innings and gave an outside chance to upset Karachi. After the break up of the partnership, Multan collapsed unceremoniously. Its last five wickets fall adding just 26 runs giving huge relief to Karach skipper Muhammad Sami. Sami took five for 48. One of his victim was Naveed Yasin who scored 84 in 173 balls hitting 13 fours. Ali Niazi fell to Tanveer Ahmed for 77 made in 110 balls with then aid of 11 fours. Tanveer took three for 86 and finished the match with seven for 145.
