On Friday last, Federal Minister for Information Dr. Firdaus Ashiq Awan said in the media that the Punjab Chief Minister was attacking the President and his brother Mian Nawaz Sharif was attacking democracy like the drones. This seems though, to be a fairy-tale since the missiles fired from the drones totally destroy their targets when President Zardari from appearance looks hail and hearty and has not suffered even a minor abrasion over the years. In fact, he is now frequently and fearlessly going abroad, at times on state visits and at times his fabulous wealth beacons him to the golden shores of London and Dubai. Of course, Mian Nawaz Sharif would not be attacking democracy 'like drones when he himself desperately aspires to wield power once again. And, this is possible only in a state of democracy and under no other rule. Destabilising democracy by design will, therefore, tantamount to digging his own grave which no politician, who expects so much from this form of government, will ever do.
