LAHORE–Pakistan People’s Party Senator Aitzaz Ahsan has said on Tuesday that the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani do not have the authority to issue political statements.

Both heads of pillar of states violated the constitution by giving political statements on Monday, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan said while speaking to media at Lahore High. However, he said, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and army chief both wanted supremacy of constitution and law in the country.

“The interim verdict of the apex court pertaining to the Balochistan law and order case was non-implement able,” he said. He said the verdict was similar to Article 58-2B which allowed the sacking of elected representatives. He said that the courts should only speak through just judgments and added that the army chief did not have the right to make political statements.

Barrister Ahsan added that if the army or the government did anything against the judiciary, the people would take a stand for it.
