Zero-tolerance against unregistered vehicles in Muharram: Commissioner




RAWALPINDI - Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Imdad Ullah Bosal directed the law enforces to effective action against unregistered vehicles and motorcycles plying on city’s roads to maintain law and order situation during Moharam-ul-Harram.
He also directed the law enforcers to impound all such vehicles and motorcycles in the police stations concerned. He also ordered action against the fiery speakers who deliver provoking speeches during the sacred month.  
The commissioner issued these instructions during a meeting he held on Tuesday to review the arrangements of Muharram-ul-Harram.
The meeting was also attended by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Capt Muhammad Zubair, City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed Khokher, SSP CID Rana Shahid, SSP Special Branch Mohsin Naqvi, MNAs Malik Shakeel Awan, Malik Ibrar Ahmad, MPAs Sharyar Riaz, Raja Muhammad Hanif and Chaudhry Muhammad Ayaz.
RPO and CPO briefed in the meeting and said that police jawans would be deployed to guard the processions and mourning whereas Rangers would assist the police.  
Commissioner said that Punjab government would contact Interior Ministry to depute Rangers at sensitive areas while a letter has also been written to IESCO department to avoid loadshedding during Muharram Majalis.
Moreover, TMAs would be directed to arrange stand by generators for the Majalis in their respective areas in case of load shedding. He directed the police department to make video recording of processions and Majalis must be done to trace out the real culprits in case of any misshape and terrorist activity.
A comprehensive mechanism of body frisk should also be adopted with metal detectors and walk through gates, Commissioner said adding that police should conduct search operation in hotels situated in Pirwadhai area along with other populated areas of the city in a bid to find out anti-social activities. A campaign should also be launched against illegal weapons holders, he directed.
Parking lots should also be set up from a good distance from the Majalis places, he said.
On the occasion, elected representatives of peace committees tabled their proposals for the steps to be needed for peaceful passage of Muharram. Commissioner, RPO and CPO welcomed these suggestions. CPO Azhar Hameed Khokhar also briefed the meeting about the crime situation in the district and performance of police department in this regard.
