OKARA- An eight-year-old girl was raped by the son of a landlord in the Tahta Joyo village of Okara district's Qasba Akber area on Friday.

The minor girl, who was a labourer's daughter, was abducted and subjected to rape after she left her home to buy milk.

The girl's mother and maternal uncle took her to a nearby hospital where doctors after examining the victim confirmed that she had been subjected to sexual assault.

The victim's family members accused the local police of non-cooperation.

"We are poor hard-working people. We went to the police station but no one heard our pleas over there because the accused are landlords," a relative of the girl told a private TV channel.

The family members also appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, demanding justice for the girl and arrest of the perpetrators.

A First Information Report (FIR) of the incident was lodged at the Saddar Bugera police station. Police officials also claimed that raids were being conducted for the arrest of the accused and said he would be apprehended soon.
