LAHORE -  Hero of the day Hamza Mawaz Khan played finest polo to help Barry's lift the Fresher Juice Polo Cup after outlasting Carlton Tower 7-4 in the final played here at the jam-packed Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground on Sunday.

High-flying Hamza struck superb six goals in his team's triumph while the remaining one came from Nafees Barry. For the losing side, Naveed M Sheikh, Ahsan Javed Sher, Alman Jalil Azam and Adnan Jalil Azam hit one goal apiece.

In the subsidiary final, half goal handicap advantage helped Qatalpur beat Learning Alliance by 6½-6. Abdul Rehman Monnoo was star of the day for Qatalpur as he hammered all the six goals for the winners while for the losing side, Omer Asjad Malhi and Ahmed Zubair slammed a brace each while Usman and Bilal Haye added one goal apiece.

PIACL Board of Directors Malik Nazeer Ahmad was chief guest on the occasion while England’s Guard Polo Club Director Nigel Hadden Paton, Al-Halal Food chairman Farrukh Sattar and LPC president Irfan Ali Hyder were the guests of honour. All the guests and spectators highly enjoyed the very exciting polo activity and kept on cheering for the goal-scoring players.

Talking to the journalists after winning the final, her of the day Hamza Mawaz said: “It was all team work as I was fully supported by my team, and that’s the reason why we won the title and I was declared player of the final.”

Speaking about this polo season, Hamza said: “I play polo in England every year, which is helping me a lot in improving my polo skills. I can foresee a very tough and challenging polo season ahead and I will try my best to make my polo season remarkable.”
