GUJRAT -  Renowned Islamic scholar and anchorperson Syed Bilal Qutab said that the educational institutions should focus on character building of the students by teaching them moral values along with knowledge and skills.

“They should be taught moral values, too, along with lessons of social discipline, religious toleration and brotherhood for a peaceful co-existence and brotherhood and prepare them as the responsible citizen and good human being. Character building is very important for the establishment of Islamic society,” Syed Bilal told the participants of a seminar here at Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat (UoG) the other day (Tuesday).

The seminar titled “The Future of Pakistan and the Role of our Youths” was organized by the Student Services Centre (SSC). Deans of various faculties and heads of departments, as well as a large number of faculty members, senior administration officials and students participated in the seminar.

“Teachers are often looked upon by the students as their role model or the best example to be followed,” Syed Bilal said, adding it rests a greater responsibility upon the shoulders of a teacher.

Director Media Sheikh Abdul Rashid, speaking earlier to the participants, said, “The secret of social progress and development lies in human solidarity and integrity. Islam is the religion of humanity which seeks to promote discipline in the society.” He expressed his belief that engaging people of different cultures and civilizations in dialogue and debate helps bring them closer to each other. He further said that the University of Gujrat lays a great emphasis on the promotion of best social practices to help boost the character-building of students.

Consultant Business Incubation Centre (BIC) at UoG Muhammad Haider Meraj said that there are ample opportunities for students to our sharpen and enhance their natural talents and skills at the UoG as part of its commitment to provide whose efforts have  part of its commitment to job creation through entrepreneurship.

Director SSC Muhammad Yaqoob spoke about the various practical steps being taken by his centre to promote social values among the students.
