ISLAMABAD -  The United Business Group (UBG) of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Sunday announced names of the candidates from Balochistan and Punjab for FPCCI elections.

A meeting of the UBG’s core committee was held here at the house of FPCCI President Abdur Rauf Alam, which was attended by representatives of the business community from all across the country.

Those present on the occasion included FPCCI’s presidential candidate Zubair Tufail, SVP FPCCI Khalid Tawab, Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Gulzar Feroz, Riazuddin Sheikh, Abdus Sami Khan, Hameed Akhtar Chadda and Malik Sohail.

After thorough deliberations, UBG Chairman Iftikhar Ali Malik and Parton-in-Chief SM Muneer announced names of the candidates.

As per the announcement, Amir Atta Bajwa, who has served as VP of FPCCI, was nominated for the slot of Senior Vice President of FPCCI.

Former ICCI president Mian Shaukat Masood was nominated to represent capital city as VP of FPCCI while Masooma Sabtain was nominated to run for VP on women’s seat.

The post of VP reserved for the associations went to Qazi Atta-ur-Rahman of the Crop Association Khanewal while Wali Muhammad of Loralai Chamber will contest for the post of VP from Balochistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Iftikhar Ali Malik, SM Muneer and other business leaders said that UBG would win the FPCCI elections again as business community was in no mood to try those who had been tested in the past.

“The opposition has united with the intention to plunder resources of the apex chamber, while we are here to serve the masses. That is why we have won the FPCCI elections twice,” they opined.

They further said that one of their aims was to revive the lost glory of the apex chamber of commerce, which, they said, was damaged due to mismanagement, corruption and nepotism.

“We brought dictatorship in the FPCCI to an end, and now it is playing due role in national development rather than serving a group of few opportunists,” they added.

Senator Ilyas Bilour said that the business community of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa and Fata would fully back UBG in the upcoming FPCCI elections.

He said that only true democracy will prevail in trade politics and people with integrity have been given responsibilities so that that can contribute to image building of FPCCI and resolve issues of the business community.
