28 healthcare establishments suspended after inspection

ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad Health Regulatory Authority (IHRA) has received more than 150 complaints through the Prime Minister’s Performance Delivery Unit (PMDU) since its inception and has resolved all.
The performance document of the IHRA said that the body has received 155 complaints regarding private health establishments in the city and it has resolved all as well.
The document said that the authority has conducted 25 inspection visits of healthcare establishments during this quarter, 98 HCEs were served with notices for non-compliance with IHRA Act 2018 and 28 HCEs services were suspended.
Details said that the health establishments inspected included 33 hospitals, 35 labs, 57 GP clinics, 27 rehabilitation centers, 11 dawakhanas, 12 homeopathic clinics, 21 dental clinics, 16 diagnostic centers, five COVID-19 AVCs, seven maternity homes and 26 medical centers.
The document said that the complaint unit has been established for receiving, managing, and resolving complaints of patients or their family members and to improve the quality of healthcare systems, services and outcomes.
The purpose of complaints directorate is to ensure the rights of patients and that healthcare establishments are well maintained in view of the rules and regulations directed by IHRA. The complaints received at IHRA are the source of direct information about the problems being faced by the public from healthcare systems and services.
It said that the authority investigates any medical negligence related to hospitals, labs, tibb, homeopathic clinics, matabs, home-based services, ambulatory services, slimming centers, and other healthcare establishments providing services in the capital territory.
Issues including negligence, inattention, delay, incompetence, inefficiency, administrative irregularities, abuse of power, any act of omission or commission, incorrect action or failure to take any action, foresee and take comprehensive precautionary measures against possible mishaps, failure to provide information, investigate, failure to reply misleading or inaccurate statements, inadequate liaisons, corrupt behaviour, incorrect or illegal administration of a drug to a patient or client, an incorrect or incomplete entry in a document or violation of human rights etc. can be reported.
Earlier, IHRA inspection teams carried out inspections of 55 healthcare establishments in different areas of Islamabad Capital Territory during the past two weeks.
The Healthcare Establishments visited included hospitals, diagnostic labs, collection points, dental clinics, vaccination centres, G.P Clinics and homeo/tibb clinics. 
IHRA suspended the services of 11 healthcare establishments. DNA Digger Lab, Islamabad Healthcare Lab and Citi Medicare Lab were suspended for preparing fake reports of Covid-19, Al-Fateh Medical Center and Tariq Dental Clinic for unhygienic conditions. Khalil Clinic and Clinical Lab, Tooth Designer, Ismail Dental Clinic, Allianz Laboratory/Hassan Medical Center, Noman Medical Centre and Clinics and Diagnostics Hospital services were suspended for different non-compliances including keeping expired lab reagents, absence of qualified staff, lack of proper waste management system.
Thirty seven healthcare establishments were served notices and directed to apply for registration with IHRA.
It also carried out inspections at hospitals, rehabilitation centres, diagnostic labs, collection points, dental clinics, vaccination centres, G.P Clinics and homeo/tibb clinics.
IHRA suspended the services of two PCR labs Biogene Lab and Diagnostic Center and Nimra Diagnostic Centre until further orders for preparing fake Covid-19 reports and keeping expired lab test kits.
Thirty eight healthcare establishments were served notices for different non-compliances including keeping expired lab reagents, absence of qualified staff, lack of proper waste management system and were also directed to apply for registration with IHRA.
