LAHORE - The PML-N is not willing to say anything about the role played by Saudi Arabias King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz in the release and banishment of former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif in December 2000. We will explain our point of view on the subject when Musharraf is tried in a court of law, senior party leader Senator Pervaiz Rashid said in an interview to a private TV channel on Wednesday. Musharraf said in an interview that he had sent Mr Sharif to Saudi Arabia on King Abdullahs mediation. The PML-N Senator said Musharraf had said in his recent speech in Birmingham that he was not afraid of telling lies. He said a man who himself was saying this about himself could not be credible. He said when Nawaz Sharif was overthrown and implicated in baseless cases, the entire world was concerned about the (fate of the) former prime minister. Rashid said Musharraf would have to explain who had authorised him to topple a government, arrest a prime minister and get him convicted in baseless cases. Asked specifically if the Saudi monarch had played any role in the release of Mr Sharif, the PML-N parliamentarian quoted a statement of the former prime minister that a prisoner had no free will People who sent (Mr Sharif) out of the country or who played a role for it know better. Answering another question, the PML-N leader said Musharraf wanted to get rid of Nawaz Sharif, because he knew that the ousted prime minister would be a source of problems for him even in prison.
