LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said distribution of cash assistance through Watan Cards is underway among the flood-hit people in the affected districts of River Indus and now distribution of Watan Cards will also be started in flood affected districts of rivers Chenab and Jhelum from October 10, which will be carried out in a transparent manner sans injustice to anyone. He was presiding over a meeting regarding distribution of Watan Cards in the flood-affected districts of rivers Chenab and Jhelum. Members National and Provincial Assembly belonging to Sargodha, Khushab and Jhang, Chief Secretary, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Secretary Agriculture, Commissioners of Faisalabad and Sargodha, DCOs of Sargodha, Khushab and Jhang and Director General Provincial Disaster Management Authority were also present. The CM said the Punjab government had adopted a transparent system for the distribution of cash assistance and transport facility had been provided to the affectees to bring them to NADRA offices. Cash-aid will be distributed transparently in flood affected districts of rivers Chenab and Jhelum - Sargodha, Multan, Khushab and Jhang - as has been distributed in Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, DG Khan, Rajanpur and Rahim Yar Khan districts. More than 150,000 Watan Cards have been issued and an amount of Rs 16 billion will be distributed among the affectees through these cards, he said, adding that the government had completed arrangements to provide free seeds and fertilizers to farmers having up to 25 acres of land and the process would be started by October 15. The govt is committed to the rehabilitation of flood affectees and construction of modern villages has been started at different sites in Punjab where the affectees will be provided modern housing facilities. He said that the role of various departments, NGOs, welfare organisations and philanthropists in the rehabilitation of affectees is commendable, he added. Chief Secretary Nasir Mehmood Khosa and Senior Member Board of Revenue Akhlaque Ahmad Tarar gave a briefing regarding flood losses in affected districts of Chenab and Jhelum rivers. They told the meeting arrangements had been completed for the distribution of Watan Cards in Sargodha, Multan and Khushab districts. On the occasion, assembly members also gave their recommendations regarding compensation to the flood affectees.
