SARGODHA/BAHAWALNAGAR - The Anti-Corruption Establishment claimed to have retrieved state land measuring more than 4,800 kanal worth billions of rupees from two land grabbers in different areas of the district.

According to ACE Regional Director Asim Raza, he got a tip-off that state land 2,400 kanal situated in village 170/172, Tehsil Sillanwali, has been in the illegal possession of one Anwar Aziz for the past 18 years. He was informed that basically Mr Aziz had acquired the state land on lease from the Livestock Department in 1960, which ended in year 2000. Since then neither he had renewed the lease, nor had returned the land to the department concerned. Upon which the ACE Director ordered a probe into the matter. During investigation into the case, Deputy Director (Investigations) Aroojul Hassan and Assistant Director Israr Hussain Kazim scrutinised the relevant record and found that Anwar Aziz and his accomplices are illegally occupying the 2,400 kanal state land with the connivance of revenue officials. Following the confirmation, the ACE officials along with revenue officer and local police retrieved the land from the illegal occupation and also demolished illegal construction on the land.

Similarly, the ACE retrieved state land measuring 2,400 kanal in village 92/NB. The land had been occupied by influential persons namely Dilbaz and others from 2012. The Lahore High Court had ordered the Board of Revenue to retrieve the land but the BoR failed to take any action. The ACE took the task and retrieved the land from illegal possession with help of revenue officers and police.

In Bahawalnagar, anti-encroachment operation has been launched across district, under the directives of the Punjab government. The clean-up drive has been started in all five tehsils of Bahawalnagar District. All five assistant commissioners are supervising the operation and determine to make it successful. Meanwhile encroachments existed for the past 40 years were removed by the administration, while state land worth millions of rupees was also retrieved by the administration. The operation is in full swing.
