KARACHI (PPI) - A tribunal in Sindh High Court inquiring April 9, 2008 violent incidents in Karachi Saturday examined ten witnesses, including five Medico Legal Officers and five firemen of Fire Department of City Government Karachi. Justice Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui of SHC headed tribunal probing into incidents of violence. Ten people were killed, of them six lawyers burnt to death in arson attack at Tahir Plaza on MA Jinnah Road, around 50 vehicles set ablaze, public and private property damaged. Two groups of lawyers had clashed outside City Court that sparked widespread violence in city on that day. Assistant Advocate General Sarwar Ahmed Khan and SSP Niaz Khoso, who is liasing court, were present. City Chief Fire Officer Karachi Ehteshamuddin and four Station Fire Officers of Saddar, Bolton Market, Central and Lyari appeared recorded their statements. Senior Medico Legal Officer of Civil Hospital Karachi Dr. Ghulam Sarwar Chandio, four MLOs CHK Dr. Farida, Dr. Asif Farooq, Dr. Nisar Ali Shah and MLO Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Dr. Sajid Ali also recorded their statements. Briefing newsmen AAG Sarwar Ahmed Khan said CFO Ehteshamuddin submitted firemen moved to initiate rescue operation in areas where buildings or vehicles were set on fire. They had returned from some areas due to indiscriminate firing. He said CFO complained lack of facilities, refresher & training courses for firemen. Firemen felt insecure while launching rescue operations during law order situation, as police did not cooperate. Theremaining MLOs will record statement on next date of hearing, when owners of burnt vehicles will also appear before tribunal. Superintendents Police of CID, Special Branch and Security Departments will appear on September 13, 2008.
