KARACHI - As many as 34 out of 37 invited reported on the opening day of the brief national hockey training camp which began here Saturday at the Hockey Club of Pakistan. Two players who were in the original list of the trainees, Muhammad Imran and Muhammad Rizwan are in South Korea with Pakistan Army team and would join the camp as soon as they return home, said former Olympian Jahangir Butt, who is manager-cum-camp-commandant. The 37th player on the list of trainees, Shabbir Khan has sent his medical certificate and would not attend the camp at all, added Jahangir Butt. The camp has been arranged to select an 18-member Pakistan team for Four-Nation Hockey Tournament at Hamburg starting September 3. Host Germany, Malaysia and Belgium are other cuntries in the competition. Final 18 are expected to be named on September 12 and 13 after one-day trial.
