RAWALPINDI- Legal fraternity Rawalpindi Bar Association (RBA) Saturday protested here and reiterated their stance to continue their struggle till the restoration of the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Lawyers brought out a rally in the Court premises and came out on the Jehlum Road and blocked the Kutchehri Chowk for about 20 minutes. They chanted slogans against the delay in the restoration of the deposed CJ and criticised People's Party led government for reinstating handpicked judges of High Courts and the Supreme Court. The lawyers returned to the Bar hall and held a general body meeting under the chair of High Court Bar Association (HCBA) President, Sardar Asmatullah. In the meeting the speakers criticised the People's Lawyer Forum (PLF) for supporting PPP policies about the issue of restoration of the judges and trying to create friction among the legal fraternity. The speakers criticised the RBA Secretary General for his anti-lawyers activities and trying to create rift in the Bar and vowed to continue their struggle for the supremacy of law in the country. Some lawyers from PPP said 90 percent members of PLF were for the return of the deposed CJ and only ten percent were favouring party leadership. Sardar Asmatullah said the lawyers should not raise slogans against the elected people and should refrain from quarreling with each other. He said they would continue their struggle for the deposed CJ even if all other deposed judges return to the courts after taking fresh oaths. The judges abstained from taking oath under PCO due to the motivation given to them by Iftikhar Chaudhry and now they are taking fresh oaths without the CJ but the lawyers are not to leave the CJ alone, he maintained. The lawyers' representative said the Constitution did not allow for two oaths for the same office and it was not understandable for him why the judges had been taking second oath. He praised the judges for not supporting the November 3 action of a dictator.
