LAHORE - Defence Day was observed with full zeal and fervour in the city and numerous ceremonies were held to pay homage to the martyrs of September 6, of 1965 War. While addressing the wreath laying ceremony on Defence Day of Pakistan at Yadgar-e-Shuhada in Cantt Saturday, Commander Lahore Corps Lt Gen Ijaz Ahamd Bukhshi said that on September 6, during War of 1965, valiant sons of the soil offered their lives and stood united as one of solid edifice to defend their motherland. Paying tributes to the martyrs along with Birg (r) Qayume Sher, he laid floral wreath and offered Fateha for the martyrs. The daylong celebrations started with Quran Khawani while special prayers were offered for the perseverance, sovereignty and solidarity of the country in the unit mosque after Fajar prayer. ISPR said the day was dawned with the national flag hoisting on all the formation headquarters, units and installations. A ceremony was also held at Mazar-e-Iqbal to pay homage to the great poet which was attended by the civil and military officials.
