Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry has said that all state institutions are bound to function under their constitutional jurisdiction. The judiciary has also been bound to watch that the institutions should function under their constitutional limits. Addressing a ceremony to mark the new year of the Supreme Court on Monday, Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry said the Supreme Court and the high courts are bound to intervene in accordance with their constitutional powers to protect the rights of the people if any state institution crosses its limits. Sometime this role of the judiciary resented but the court have to perform its duty, he said. The Chief Justice urged for early resolution of the cases pending in the courts. He said the Supreme Judicial Council has been reactivated and the court didnt extend protection to the extra-constitutional steps in its July 31st verdict. President Supreme Court Bar Ali Ahmed Kurd and the Attorney General also addressed the gathering.
