Three cops shot dead in Hassanabdal

WAH CANTT (APP/AFP) - Three policemen deputed on the security and safety of railway bridge were shot dad in the limits of PS Hassanabdal in the wee hours on Sunday, said police. Constables Muhammad Yaseen, Bashrat Shah and Muhammad Naeem of Hassanabadal police station had been stationed on the railway bridge over River Haro and residing in guardroom along the railway bridge. According to head constables Abdul Rasheed, who left the picket after having Sehri with fellow policemen, said later railway employees deputed for the maintenance of the bridge spotted the bodies and informed police. He said he had left the picket for procurement of some necessary items. After getting information police and medical teams rushed to the spot and found the bodies of the policemen in pool of blood with bullet injuries on their heads. While taking to newsmen Regional Police Officer Aslam Tareen said possibility of terrorism could not be ruled out but he added it was not confirmed at this time and investigations would unfold the facts. Hassanabdal police registered a case against unknown assailants and started further investigations. Police officer Arshad Mahmood told AFP. All had a single bullet wound to their forehead. It appears to be a targeted killing. Mahmood refused to comment on whether it was a criminal act or an attack linked to the Taliban, who frequently target police and security forces. The police officials were sleeping in the guardroom after taking the pre-dawn meal... when they were shot dead, he told the news agency. The government has claimed a number of military successes against the militants this year, but attacks continue across the country, mostly in the northwest region bordering Afghanistan.
