LAHORE President Pakistan Olympic Association Lt Gen (r) Arif Hassan has praised the efforts of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) towards the promotion of the game in the country. In a letter to President PHF Qasim Zia, Arif said that Pakistan junior hockey team showed commendable performance in the 1st Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, where Pakistan secured silver medal. In these days of gloom this performance has brought cheers to the people of the country. We are proud of these players and wish them all the successes in the future. He said that the players not only showed their performance on the field, but also set good examples off the field. Arif said that forming of hockey academies was a revolutionary step of the PHF and these academies had now started producing results. We hope that these academies will produce stalwarts for Pakistan. If the PHF remains focused on these lines, we hope that Pakistan will get lost glory in hockey soon. Arif congratulated President PHF Qasim Zia, Secretary Muhammad Asif Bajwa and their team for the sincere efforts that were and are being put in for the rejuvenation of hockey in the country and gave assurance for their full support in future. Arif, since Musharraf era, has occupied the POA presidents slot and Pakistans performance under him was no better than hockey federation he praised.
