RAWALPINDI - District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar gave a two-day deadline to the high-ups of Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) to remove the encroachments from all major roads for the smooth flow of traffic during construction work of 6th Road Flyover.   
The roads, from where DCO ordered RTMA to make encroachment free, included Saidpur Road, Commercial Market, National Market, IJP Road, Kurri Road and Sadiqabad. The RTMA should clear all the roads from encroachments till September 9, 2012, DCO instructed.
DCO Saqib Zafar issued these directions during a meeting he held in his office here on Thursday.  The meeting was attended by PML-N MNA Malik Ibrar Ahmed, SE Punjab Highways Farhat Munir, City Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Ishtiaq Shah, ADC (G) Saif Anwar Jappah, SP Rawal Town Chaudhry Muhammad Hanif and the officers of contractor company NLC. DCO, while addressing the meeting, said that the construction work of 6 th Road Flyover would be started soon. He said that the traffic signals would be closed for every sort of traffic on Benazir Bhutto Road from Chandani Chowk to Cricket Stadium Road and it would be diverted to a comprehensive traffic plan which had been chalked out by the traffic police Rawalpindi.
The citizens should cooperate with the concerned departments and the traffic police staff so that the project could be completed smoothly and efficiently, he added. During the meeting, the traffic plan was approved that traffic comming from Saddar to Faizabad would be converted to Chandani Chowk, National Market, Saidpur Road, IJP Road and Double road.  Similarly, the traffic coming from Faizabad to Saddar would be diverted to Farooq-e-Azam Road, Kurri Road, Cow Chowk and Chandani Chowk, Murree Road.
It was also decided that traffic police and Punjab highways would jointly prepare direction boards, no parking boards and direction banners and would place these on both sides of Murree road for the guidance of commuters. The RTMA staff would remove encroachments from while the fork lifters of traffic police would lift parked vehicles on these roads and no vehicle would be allowed to park on these roads. This exercise would be carried out for three months which would be the stipulated period of the completion of the project. It was also decided that the project of Pirwadhai Underpass and expansion of Chuhur Chowk Road would be started soon after the completion of 6th Road Flyover. 
MNA Malik Ibrar Ahmed informed the meeting that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif approved record funds of Rs 1.78 billion in the history of cantonment area.  The completion of the project would help in minimizing the traffic problems on Peshawar Road and fulfillment of longstanding demand of cantonment area people.
He further informed that he had carried out record development projects in cant area in his constituency for the last four years. This would be continued in future also throughout their tenure, he added.
