LAHORE - Strategic Committee on Annual Development Fund of Punjab met in its first meeting here under chair of Minister for Finance Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht.

The meeting was held to review the upcoming budget and also focused to get proposals for ADP according to the priorities of new provincial government prior to budget preparation. Secretary Finance apprised the meeting regarding financial condition of the province, budget estimates, revenue rates and details of expenditures whereas Chairman P&D briefed the members about the projects of previous government and planning for preparation of ADP for fiscal year 2018-19.Secretary Finance informed the meeting that provincial governments makes its budget according to the targets of federal government.

He said if FBR fails to achieve its fixed targets then provincial governments' budgets are also affected. Due to less collection by FBR provincial government is facing difficulties in preparation of its budget, he added. The committee was of the view that social sector expenditures particularly were not properly thought out and desired outcomes have not been realised as focus was on infrastructure growth only which has not yielded the desired outcomes.

Minister Finance Makhdoom Hashim Bakht asked all the committee members to give their proposals in given time for ADP planning formulation and directed Finance Department and P&D to prepare the framework of development planning according to the mandate of new government and suggestion of committee members which would result in improvement in human development indicators.

Finance Minister concluded that the forthcoming budget will be a balanced representative budget for the whole province.
