India registers 31,222 new COVID-19 cases and 290 deaths

The global death toll from the coronavirus has topped 4.574 million, while over 221 million cases of infection have been detected, according to Baltimore, Maryland's Johns Hopkins University, which tracks and compiles data from national and local authorities, the media, and other sources.

The US is still the most-affected nation amid the pandemic, with over 40 million people infected, and a death toll of 649 072. It is followed by India, which has registered over 33.1 million cases and 441,042 deaths, and Brazil, which has confirmed 20.8 million cases and 583,810 fatalities.

Meanwhile, more than 5.4 billion vaccine doses have been administered worldwide.
