ISLAMABAD (APP) - Students from various institutions of the twin cities here Tuesday displayed their innovative ideas in an art and drawing competition on Ideal Environment at Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH). Over 100 children of 9 to 15 years of age were the participants of the Drawing and Art Poster Competition as part of the celebrations of national year of Environment 2009. Acting Director General, PMNH, Dr Manzoor H Soomro while inaugurating the event highlighted the role of natural history museums in terms of recreation, education and education. Museums of natural history play a vital role in creating awareness about different species of animals and plants that are rare in approach of common man, he remarked. The aim of this competition was to create awareness of environmental problems among the students and make them active partners in the efforts for protection and conservation of the environment, he added. PMNH has a wealth of natural resources that provide understanding of factors related to environment, he said. The competition was organised by PMNH, Pakistan Science Foundation and Intel Pakistan while the art works of the students be exhibited at PMNH for Public viewing after the announcing the winners of the competition. The medium for the paintings was open for the students in which they expressed a variety of ideas to make the environment safe and clean. A jury comprising artists and environmentalists will adjudge the first, second and third position holders, who will be awarded cash prizes amounting to Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3000 and Rs. 2000 respectively in a prize distribution ceremony to be organised later on.All the participating students will also get participation certificates and will be given special caps.
