Two Indian soldiers and two militants were killed in a prolonged gun battle in Indian held Kashmir (IHK) close to Pakistan-controlled territory, the army said Wednesday. The clashes have been some of the fiercest in recent years and follow warnings from Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba of fresh attacks against Indian troops. A series of running gun battles last month along the border left eight soldiers and 17 militants dead. Kashmir has been in the grip of an insurgency against Indian rule since 1989 that has left over 47,000 people dead by an official count.
