ISLAMABAD - PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif Tuesday exhorted the US to give up drone attacks policy, as it is counter-productive to tackle the problem of terrorism and extremism. He said this while talking to media persons after his luncheon meeting with US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrook and US Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen here at the US embassy. I have made it clear to the United States that drone attacks policy is harmful, counter-productive and Obama should review it, Nawaz said. He further said that host of issues were also discussed with the visiting US officials including effort for eliminating militancy in line with the interests of Pakistan. PML-N Quaid further said that he had no personal grudge against President Asif Ali Zardari. Our dispute was based on principles. The whole nation is happy over the restoration of the deposed judiciary and now there is a need that the Charter of Democracy be implemented like the reinstatement of the deposed judges, he argued. I have full confidence in the restored judiciary, including Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, he remarked. Judiciary would provide justice to the nation in real sense, he said. However, it was imperative that parliament should have its role in the appointment of judges, he added. Mian Nawaz Sharif also said he would file an appeal in the Supreme Court regarding his eligibility case and would also appear in the court as his demand for the restoration of the deposed judiciary had been met. Answering a question about PML-Ns joining the federal government, Nawaz Sharif said that his party had decided to part ways with the federal government due to non-fulfilment of the pledges. This policy was still continuing and no change had been made, he said adding that PML-N had no plan to join the federal cabinet. As far as the Punjab government was concerned, whatever decision was made by PPP, PML-N would respect it, he added. Earlier, Central Information Secretary of PML-N, Ahsan Iqbal, said that Nawaz Sharif visited the US embassy and attended the luncheon meeting as a diplomatic courtesy. He also said that his party chief would meet Holbrooke and the US ambassador to convey them the PML-N policy for tackling the issue of terrorism by separating the local Taliban from Al-Qaeda and its foreign affiliates.
