Punjab to give 45% of its water share to other provinces

Punjab has decided to give 45 percent of its share of water to other provinces, said the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) on Friday. A meeting of IRSAs members was held here in Lahore, led by Chairman Rao Irshad. The meeting discussed issues pertaining to water management and provinces needs. During the meeting, Punjab decided to cut its water share by half. The total water share of Punjab is 33,000 cusecs which will become 18,000 cusecs after giving half to other provinces. The meeting was informed that approximately 50,000 cusecs of water would be given to Sindh from Mangla Dam due to its need to cultivate wheat. Rao Irshad told the meeting's attendees that water levels in Jhelum, Chenab, Kabul and Sindh rivers had declined due to mercury rising.
