Laptops scheme removes digital gap


LAHORE – The recent initiative of the Punjab government to distribute laptops amongst thousands of brilliant students of public colleges and universities across the province has met with great success, said Minister Education Mujtaba Shuja Ur Rehman here on Saturday.
He said that the initiative has helped bridge the digital divide between the haves and have-nots, in terms of providing access to tools of modern education.
Talking about the market value of the laptops, the Education Minister Education said that a transparent procedure of open bidding was adopted in public procurement.
Comparative Statement of all participant firms was prepared and the lowest cost quoted by any participant firm is required to be approved.
“Directorate of IT Labs Project, School Education Department in the instant case, completed all formalities of procurement and through open competition and the lowest bidding firm was selected for purchase of laptop computers. Dell in Pakistan sells through authorised distributors and Inbox is one of them.
