MIRPUR (AJK) - Showing his extreme dismay over the incumbent PPP-led coalition government of Pakistan, elderly Kashmiri politician and former AJK Prime Minister Sardar Sikander Hayat Khan has categorically stated, “Jammu & Kashmir is not safe in the hands of President Asif Ali Zardari.”PML-N top leader in AJK 80-year-old Sikander was addressing his party’s first anniversary convention at Chitterpari here. Sikander Hayat continued that how the people of Kashmir could accept the right to self-determination from President Zardari who had turned the budget to AJK into deficit. He accused the sitting Pakistani rulers and their backed-AJK ruling clique of misusing massive money in the name of Benazir Income Support Program in AJK. Sardar Sikander said that the people of AJK in Mirpur were being tried to be deprived by IRSA of the use of even a single gallon of water from their (Kashmiris) own Kashmir-based Mangla Dam reservoir which receives the river waters falling from the heights of the Jammu & Kashmir state. Sikander pointed out that the reported Indus River System Agency (IRSA) had imposed a ban on the use of the required six hundred (600) cusecs of water from Mangla dam reservoir for drinking purposes for the people of Mirpur district who sacrificed twice for the sake of the speedy progress and prosperity of Pakistan. Quoting the recent alleged report of the organization of Pakistan Conspiracy International, Sikander alleged that President Zardari had sold Kohala Hydel Power Project for accomplishment of his (Zardari) vested monetary benefits, causing Rs557 billion loss to the national exchequer. Bitterly criticizing the role of AJK Council - the Pakistan Prime Minister-led upper House of the AJK Parliament, the seasoned Kashmiri leader demanded immediate abolition of the AJK Council - since it only belong to President Zardari and the Kashmir Affairs Minister Manzoor Wattoo. He branded the 28-member house of AJK Council a white elephant which had no any significant role in the development of AJK in letter and spirit. Sikander, who is a refugee belonging to divided Kashmiri families, called for the introduction of a liberal regime for the divided Kashmiri families seeking to visit each other at both sides of the line of control through travel permit by the weekly trans-LoC buses service at two natural routes. Sikander emphasized the need of making easier the existing procedure for exchange of cross LoC movement between AJK and Indian held Kashmir to facilitate the divided families to visit each other.Sikander maintained that it seemed that there was no any custodian nor any sympathizer of Kashmiris since the sitting Pakistani rulers had created an environment of sinking the local population into this (Mangla) dam instead of addressing their grievances. Sikander also called for early resolution of the problems of the Jammu & Kashmir refugees settled in Punjab including Jhang district - which he added - were directly related to the provincial government. Lashing out at the leadership of Muslim Conference (his parent party) Sardar Sikander Hayat Khan said that ‘Murshads’ had been receiving ransom from the former military rulers of the country in return for their support to the ‘military democracy’.
