KARACHI - Four more people including a police officer and an activist of PPP were gunned down in separate acts of target killing in different parts of the metropolis.

In an armed attack on police party, a police man was killed while three others including two policemen were injured in the limits of Sohrab Goth police station. A policeman namely Rizwan was gunned down while two cops were wounded namely Syed Abbas and Rizwan. Another man namely Sardar Muhammad received injuries. Police shifted them to a nearest private hospital and later moved to ASH.

DSP Iftikhar Lodhi said that Sher Zaman Mehsud and former SHO Azam Mehsud accomplices had staged protest at Super Highway against the nomination of Mehsud brothers in Rao Anwar attack case. The police party reached, dispersed the protesters and installed a police picket in the area. He said the police personnel were having tea at Malik Agha Hotel when two armed motorcyclists came and opened indiscriminate firing. Resultantly a police constable died on the spot while three others including two cops were injured.

In another incident, an activist of PPP namely Shahid was shot dead while three others injured by the firing of unidentified culprits in a hotel located in the limits of Hyderi check-post. DSP Abdul Rasheed said Shahid was a former member of PPP’s Zakat Committee. He was present among his friends when some unidentified men targeted him. Body and injure shifted to ASH for legal formalities.

Meanwhile, a Pesh Imam was shot dead in Akbar Baloch Goth near Ghaghar Phatak within the jurisdictions of Steel Town police station. The victim Arif, 27, was targeted when he was going home after offering Maghrib prayers. Police official said the victim was shifted in the area two months before and personal enmity might be the motive behind the incident.

Moreover, a taxi driver namely Khursheed Tanoli was shot dead near airport signal. SHO Airport Noor Muhammad Wassan said the victim was the resident of Shah Faisal Colony. According to initial reports, the victim died during fight with other taxi driver. The body was shifted to JPMC for legal formalities. No case was registered till filing of the report.

Separately, a 13-year-old boy died when a ‘shell’, he was playing with, went off in Manora area on late Saturday night, police said. They said the victim identified as Sohail found a shell of mortar bomb from an area near his home situated in the colony of Pakistan Navy officials in Manora area.

“Some locals said that the boy was playing with the shell when it went off,” said Inspector Madad Ali Zardari, SHO Docks police station.

“The Pakistan Navy team has cordoned off the area to conduct investigation. We do not have enough and factual information about the incident. We are waiting for the Pakistan Navy’s go-ahead to meet our formalities,” he added.
