An honourable man

I have been shocked to read in today’s newspaper that Imran Khan has been summoned by the Returning Officer of the National Assembly Constituency NA-56 from which he is fighting the elections, to clarify his position about the allegation made about him consuming alcohol by one of the voters. The voter alleges that this being a violation of Article 63 and 64 of the Constitution, Imran Khan is not eligible for contesting the election. Having known Imran Khan for nearly 35 years, including my ten years in PCB, twice as its Chief Executive and once as Media advisor, I remained closely associated with the players. Having been in their company during matches as well as at parties and functions, I would like to solemnly inform all the voters, as well as Imran Khan’s opponents, that he never indulged in drinking alcohol. Except for his inflexibility, which may be considered as a personal trait, Imran Khan possesses all the qualities of a great leader.
