Poor sanitation, cattle farms cause pollution

RAWALPINDI  – Poor sanitation and presence of cattle farms in different residential areas in the jurisdiction of Chaklala Cantonment Board are polluting the environment, making lives of the residents miserable.
The residents of Rahimabad, Nighat Colony, Dhok Charagh Din, Mareer Hassan and other surrounding areas said that sewerage lines are blocked by mud and garbage in the area and filthy water overflows into the streets and roads. They said that cleanliness situation in the locality proved that the concerned authorities were treating them as second class citizens as posh areas of Chaklala Cantt are as clean as some city of Europe.
The residents further said that one of the major reasons of the blockage of sewerage system was wastes of the cattle, as owners of the cattle farms dump the wastes near the sewerage lines. Moreover, the cattle farms in the residential areas invite flies and mosquitoes that may cause an outbreak of different diseases in the areas.
The residents demanded of the CEO of Chaklala Cantt to visit the localities at least once in a month to monitor the performance of the sanitation workers. They also demanded removal of cattle farms from the residential areas.
