LAHORE  - The government has come up with a fresh idea as it has directed educational institutions to establish ‘Character Building Societies’ (CBS) to sensitise the students about corruption.

In a letter available with The Nation, the federal government directed all the education institutions in Punjab to establish CBS, comprising students, to create awareness against corruption and enforcement of law and order.

It is also mentioned in the letter that the educational institutions should implement the Accountability Ordinance 1999 in all education institutions of Punjab. The letter reads: “CBS in educational institutions could play an important role in strengthening ethical ad moral attributes of students in general and awareness against the menace of corruption in particular. In this regard, all educational institutions should have to nominate a focal person for coordination with NAB.”

Talking to this scribe, Government College University Vice Chancellor Dr Khaleequr Rahman has appreciated the idea of the government and said the societies would help for character building of the students.

He said such committees and societies were needed for personality grooming. He said the students learnt more through the activities of the societies. He said the GCU already had numerous societies.
