ISLAMABAD - Expressing serious concerns over the ongoing peace parleys with militants, Qoumi Watan Party chief Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has asked the government to make public the list of cases against those non-combatant prisoners released as confidence building measure for the ongoing talks with Tehreek-I-Taliban Pakistan.

Talking to media persons outside the Parliament House on Monday, Sherpao, who has twice served as interior minister in the past, also wanted allaying of Armed Forces’ concerns regarding the release of prisoners as CBMs for the peace talks between government and militants.

Though he too believed that durable peace would come only through negotiations he wanted to see the whole exercise in right frame where the militants should also come with some reciprocation of the government’s goodwill gesture.

To a question, he said that Army is one of the main stakeholders in the affair and its concerns should be properly addressed. Without giving any details about the Armed Forces’ concerns, he said that their concerns are genuine and the government must address them particularly those about the release of the prisoners.

He once again asked the government to take the nation into confidence on the charges against the 19 non-combatant prisoners released by the government.

To another question, he also said that the release of prisoners should not be one-sided, as militants should also reciprocate it by release of innocent people in their custody.
