LAHORE  - The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the Punjab government not to demolish any portion of the Doctors’ mess of Lady Willingdon Hospital for the construction of a flyover Azadi Chowk unless it provided substitute provisions on alternate spots accomplished.
Justice Abdul Sattar Asghar of the LHC was hearing the case. The judge, however, permitted the government to have 2 kanal and 11 marla land of Lady Willingdon Hospital for the construction of above said flyover. 
The judge also vacated the stay order against demolition of any portion of the hospital it had issued on January 31 by disposing of the petition of Young Doctors Association challenging the demolition of any portion of the building.
The judgment said that “existing provisions of washrooms of the maternity ward A and B, kitchens and stores of the hospital shall not be demolished up till rehabilitation/reconstruction of the substitute provisions on the alternate spots are accomplished,”. 
The court directed the government to construct all substitute within stipulated time of 45 days and submit report to registrar office of the LHC.
The court held that proposed area of about 2 kanal and 11 marla of the hospital was necessarily required to widen the public road already existing in front of the hospital and for appropriate alignment of the project.
The counsel for the government had proposed that existing provisions of the washrooms of the maternity ward A and B, kitchen, and stores of the hospital to be completed within 45 days with and estimated cost of Rs 8,811,345.
On other hand, the Young Doctors Association has decided to challenge the order of the court allowing the government to acquire 2 kanal and 11 marlas land for the construction of flyover through an intera court appeal in the LHC.
