UFS launches food safety workshops
LAHORE (PR): Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) has launched a series of Food Safety workshops aimed at raising the standard of food handling practices. The announcement was made during World Health Day celebrations, the theme of which is food safety in 2015. UFS is organizing these workshops for the benefit of Chefs and restaurant managers across Pakistan.
The UFS Food Safety workshops, to be held across all major cities, will focus on hygienic food handling and safe storage of food items whilst ensuring a safe food preparation environment and proper management and storage of equipment. These workshops will impart learning as per global best practices as a means of managing food safety risks inside the kitchen for the restaurant network that UFS works with.
Dr Masood Sadiq Butt, Director General, National Institute of Food Science & Technology, highlighted, “Unsafe food creates a vicious cycle of disease and malnutrition that affects millions of people across the world and also has a socio-economic impact. Unilever Food Solutions’ efforts to increase food safety awareness are commendable and necessary for Pakistan. It is also important for regulators, academia and industry to work together to create an enabling environment for the benefit of Pakistan’s people.”

We have taken this initiative to work with our restaurant partners to create the necessary awareness to pre-empt food safety hazard outbreaks in Pakistan. Unilever Food Solution’s Food Safety Workshops are targeted at chef and restaurant managers and in the first phase will reach 1000 participants across Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.
UMT applauded for promoting business edu
LAHORE (PR): former Governor State Bank of Pakistan Dr Ishrat Hussain has appreciated Rector UMT Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad for his contributions to promoting business education in Pakistan; paving way for linkages to be set up between industry and academia, cultivating public-private partnership and importing international standards in business and management education being imparted in Pakistani institutions of higher education.
He was addressing the Deans and Directors Conference 2015 on the theme of Building Bridges and Fostering Collaborations in Business Education’ in Pakistan. Dr Ishrat Hussain said that Rector UMT Dr Murad’s efforts to propping up business education in the country were matchless; institutions such as IBA and UMT are producing the leaders of tomorrow.
The Conference was organized jointly by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and National Business Education Accreditation Council (NBEAC). It was also attended by Chairman HEC Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, renowned business tycoons, deans, directors and heads of departments, faculty members and other stakeholders.

Dawlance launches insect, mosquito repellent series
KARACHI (PR): Dawlance, Pakistan’s number one home appliances brand, has launched refrigerators and air conditioners that are designed to repel insects and mosquitoes, respectively. The appliances are part of the brand’s Health Zone Plus line of products that are specifically designed to cater to health-conscious consumers.

Lifebuoy’s Adopted Village
LAHORE (PR): In recognition of Lifebuoy’s efforts towards uplifting community health, the Royal Society for Public Health, represented by Claire McDonald visited Rahim Charan, a village adopted by Lifebuoy under its Help a Child Reach 5 program. Lifebuoy has become the first soap brand to receive the Royal Society for Public Health’s (RSPH) newest accreditation status for campaigns. Rahim Charan is a village located in Thatta district of Sindh. Lifebuoy has partnered with JHIPEGO to address the high incidence of child mortality in the area.
As part of this program, Lifebuoy has established a neo-natal program which includes a community midwife clinic to address maternal and child health and school programs to educate children on the importance of handwashing, in addition to making clean water accessible through the installation of water pumps. Claire Mcdonald from the RSPH visited Rahim Charan to inaugurate the Lifebuoy and JHIPEGO community midwife clinic along with the water pumps installed at schools.
