Furniture industry assured of TDAP support
KARACHI (Staff Reporter): A five-member delegation of the “All Pakistan Furniture Exporters Association” (APFEA) led by Humayun Laiq, Chairman, met with SM Muneer, Chief Executive of TDAP. Prominent traders from the furniture industry held detailed discussions with the Chief Executive, TDAP, regarding various problems being faced in the export of furniture products from Pakistan. Furniture exporters suggested measures that the government should take steps to help furniture industry. The issues highlighted related to Customs and port clearances, pricing and shortage of raw materials, meeting industry’s training and development needs, increased support for international marketing of furniture products, etc.
The TDAP Chief, assured APFEA members full cooperation for resolution of furniture industry issues relating to TDAP as well as other concerned agencies.
RCCI Industrial Estate to have direct link with GT Road
RAWALPINDI (INP): The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) Industrial Estate Rawat would have direct access road from the GT Road, said RCCI President Syed Asad Mashadi here on Tuesday. Addressing the inaugural meeting of the newly appointed Management Board of RCCI Industrial Estate, he said the Punjab Government is being persuaded for construction of road link between the Estate and GT Road and work on the project would soon be initiated. Congratulating the Chairman of the Board Najam Rehan and its members, RCCI President expressed the hope that the newly appointed body would come up to the expectations of the business community in alleviating their grievances relating the industrial estate.
He said that the office of the Board has been established in the premises of the estate and work day in and day out to promote the cause of the business set ups in the industrial estate.
He pointed out that parlays with the concerned quarters are on to reach a deal regarding uninterrupted power supply to the business and industrial units from 6 am to 5 pm in the industrial estate.
The board expressed concerns on the negligence of various public sector amenities providing organisations and observed that their lack of interest in resolving the issues has hampered completion of the industrial units at the estate. In the light of above facts, the Board decided to overcome the problems on self help basis with the help of businessmen and industrial sector.
RCCI Industrial estate venture is one of its own kind project that has been undertaken by the RCCI in the private sector some two decades back with an ultimate aim to give impetus to the country’s economy but the public sector organisations have miserably failed to pay heed in offering remedies to speed up the finalisation of the venture at the earliest.

Tevta signs MoU with UVAS & PPA
Lahore (Staff Reporter): TEVTA has signed MoU with UVAS and PPA here at TEVTA Secretariat to offer poultry related courses. A Govt Technical Training Center (GTTC), Pattoki will be established by TEVTA at UVAS Ravi Campus, Main GT Road, Pattoki. This MoU was signed by General Manager TEVTA Hamid Ghani Anjum, Dean UVAS Pattoki Campus Dr. M Akram and Chairman PPA (North Zone) Dr. Mustafa Kamal. Chairperson TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Sheikh, Vice Chancellor UVAS Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha, Chief Executive Big Bird Group Abdul Basit, Chief Operating Officer TEVTA Jawad Ahmad Qureshi, General Managers Abdul Qayyum, Azhar Iqbal Shad, Director R&D Dr. Iftikhar Hussain Shah, Salman Basit, Dr. Abdul Karim and other TEVTA officers were also present on this occasion.
According to the details of MoU, short courses related to poultry industry namely Handy-Man (Multi Skills), Rural Poultry, Electrician, Plumbing & Sanitary Installer, RAC Technician and Generator Mechanic will be offered. These courses will be offered to all general public including students of UVAS and nominees of PPA. UVAS will provide building for the above institute at its Ravi Campus at Pattoki whereas TEVTA will provide Curricula of selected courses, Machinery & Equipment for Training, Faculty and Examination & Certification through Trade Testing Board (TTB)/ Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE)
Investment forum for SEZs
ISLAMABAD(Staff Reporter): HBL and ICBC have jointly organised an investment forum with the help of Suzhou Municipal Government in Suzhou China to market the SEZs. Both the banks, HBL ICBC, are working on the initiative to develop SEZs especially at Gwadar (Balochistan) and Punjab. Secretary BOI, Iftikhar Babar and Director General, BOI, Dr. Raania attended the forum on the invitation of ICBC and Habib Bank, which was attended by more than 100 Chinese prominent investors / businessmen. Secretary BOI, while conveying the strategic location of Pakistan has emphasised the Chinese investors to invest in free zone in Gwadar as well as in the SEZs to be established alongside China Pakistan Economic Corridor and avail the opportunity of getting access in the ME, Central Asia and African countries.
