‘La kum deen o kum wali ya deen’

You have your religion and we have ours.

This is one of the strongest passages in the Quran, yet no one cares much about it. Everyone recites it in their prayers but never thinks about what it means.

This verse means that everyone is free to practice whatever religion they choose to practice or whatever atheistic or monotheistic belief they want to hold.

Who gave these mullahs and the common man to persecute people on the basis of their religion? Why do we have walls saying "Kafir Kafir Shia Kafir"? Why are Ahmedis imprisoned for printing the Quran? Why are Christians burnt and churches bombed? Why are Hindu girls kidnapped, raped and forced to convert to Islam?

This has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with politics. Most Islamic parties like Jamaat-e-Islami, were against the creation of the state of Pakistan. Does it not show how hypocritical these men of beard are? Now you can be killed for blasphemy for speaking against your local imam Masjid.

Think about it and tell me how horrific that idea sounds. So a local imam masjid is being given the same esteem as the Prophet (PBUH)? Think before you react.

They have just deified a murderer’s son. To sympathise with Salmaan Taseer you don't have to be a secular or a liberal, you just have to be a human with a shred of decency.

People who incite violence and talk about persecuting Ahmedis and other religious minorities are ghustakhs themselves as they are going against the very teachings of the Quran itself. These people should be locked up, tried and imprisoned on long jail terms and strict living conditions.

They are a cancer to this already decaying society which doesn't even care about billions of dollars worth of its taxes being taken away to a foreign.

This is a country that almost went bankrupt a couple of months ago, a state which fails to provide security for its citizens, a state unable to provide health and education to its citizens, a state which fails to give equal rights to almost 51% of its population (women), a state where people get irked when the topic of equal rights is brought up, a state which fails to create jobs for its citizens and state which fails to feeds its citizens.

The media is only interested in ratings and the news vary from station to station. Yet we conveniently blame our problems on India and Israel. When you see a beggar on the street the next time, don't think that he is there because he messed up in his life. He is there because the state failed to give him equal opportunities.

The 21st century is here and we're still at least 200 years behind the rest of the world. People would say that I'm being preachy and dramatic – I am not. Having cellphones and other gadgets doesn't mean progress. For every thousand rupees you spend on a box of chocolates, there are a thousand children going to bed without food and not knowing when they'll eat next.

We need to change ourselves, we need to take responsibility for our actions, we need to hold our politicians for accountability and we need to do all that immediately. We're just on the brink of becoming a failed state and disintegrating.
