ISLAMABAD - The Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to file a corruption reference against Muhammad Jalal, former secretary health, Dr Naseer Ahmad Baloch, Additional Secretary Dr Abdul Baqi Durrani, and Head of Medicine.

The NAB has also decided to authorise six inquiries. First inquiry was authorised against Israr Rauf, former member Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Nadeem Dar, Member FATE FBR and M/s Abbas Steel, Karachi. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority and illegal refund of Sales Tax of Rs80 million to M/s Abbas Steel, Karachi. Second inquiry was authorised against Fareed Mughees Sheikh, Director M/s Colony Group of Companies and former director of Bank of Punjab. In this case, the accused person is alleged for misuse of authority in obtaining loan from the Bank of Punjab. The third inquiry was authorised against Gohar Ejaz, CEO Ejaz Spinning Mills Ltd & Ejaz Textiles Mills Ltd Lahore and ex-director of Bank of Punjab. In this case, the accused person is alleged for misuse of authority in obtaining loan from the Bank of Punjab. Fourth inquiry was authorised against Naeem Akhtar, Director Planning and Development, Dr Muhammad Ali, Treasurer Federal Urdu University, and Naeem Akhtar, Director Planning and Development. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misuse of authority, violation of PPRA rules and award of tenders to specific contractor without following PPRA rules. Thus causing a loss of Rs10 million to the national exchequer. Fifth inquiry was authorised against authorities of National Highway Authority and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for misappropriation of funds and undue delay in the construction of Kalat-Quetta-Chaman Road (N-25). Sixth inquiry was authorised against Directors of M/s Fajar Rice Mills (Pvt) Ltd, (Bank Islami Pakistan Case – Formerly KASB Bank Ltd). In this case, the accused persons were alleged for willful loan default, causing a loss of Rs39.841 million.

The NAB EBM also decided to authorise three investigations. First investigation was authorised against officers of State Bank of Pakistan, namely Farhat Saeed, ex-executive Dir (FRM), Muhammad Bilal Chaudhry, ex-director Engineer, Muhammad Sorahb Abbasi, ex-chief manager Lahore Abuzar Shad, Muhammad Nauman Sultan Piracha and others. In this case, the officers of State Bank of Pakistan sold out building known as SBP Staff Colony to some private persons at a throwaway price, causing a huge loss to the national exchequer.

Second investigation was authorised against Iftikhar Rahim, Secretary Workers Welfare Fund for misuse of authority and Officials of WWB and contractor regarding corruption and corrupt practices.  

Third investigation was authorised against Professor Khawaja Alqama, Vice Chancellor Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Malik Munir Hussain, Registrar Multan, Munir Ahmed Bhatti, Chairman BZU Lahore Campus and others. In this case, the accused persons allegedly misused their authority by establishing BZU Campus at Lahore without getting approval of Syndicate of BZU Multan, NOC from University of the Punjab, Lahore and Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The EBM also decided to authorise Complaint Verification (CV) against Ali Madad Shair, former minister for Education Gilgit Baltistan. In this case, the accused person is alleged for accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income.

The EBM also decided to proceed against officers and officials of Universal Service Fund (USF) and the Ministry of Information Technology as per law who misused their authority for awarding contract of a campaign without completion of all codal formalities.

In a case against officials of CDA Islamabad and others regarding allotment of school plot to Hamid Yar Hiraj, former MNA in Diplomatic Enclave, Islamabad. The EBM decided to proceed against officers of CDA as per law who misused their authority in allotment of school plot in Diplomatic Enclave, Islamabad without completion of all codal formalities.
