Leaders of different segments of society took out a rally, demanding early local bodies elections in Punjab to resolve problems being faced by the public at grassroots level.

The rally started from TDA Chowk, was attended by people from different social and political organisations, lawyers, leaders of Anjuman-e-Tajran and civil society activists.

The South Asia Partnership Pakistan (SAPP), Awaz District Forum, Awami Development Organisation and Sojhla Foundation also participated in the rally.

The participants marched through different roads and reached in front of Press Club.

Carrying placards, they were chanted slogans, demanding early local bodies election in the Punjab province.

Talking to the media, member Punjab Bar Council Ghulam Mustafa Joni said that the LG setup plays as important role in resolution public issues. He regretted that a delay of ten years in holding the LB election have added to the miseries of people and aggravated their problems.

Former Layyah District Nazim Ameer Muhammad Dolo emphasised the need for local bodies election at the earliest. SAPP Sub-Regional Coordinator Mahr Zubir Lohanch said that all segments of society have the right to exercise their right to franchise to elect their representatives.
