Dec 15 to be observed as 'Protest Day' against inflation

LAHORE (PR) - The working class all over the country under the aegis of Pakistan Workers Federation will observe Dec 15 as a 'Protest Day against price-hike of essential kitchen items, rising unemployment, anti-labour legislation, widening gap between the rich and poor in the society. This decision was taken in the national conference of the federation held at Bukhtiar Labour Hall, which was presided over by Muhammad Ahmed, Chairman of the Federation, and attended by hundreds of delegates representing more than 800 industrial Trade Unions including WAPDA, PTCL, Textile, Engineering, Pharmaceutical, P1-IA, Transport, Food, Communication, PWD, Buildings & Highways, Insurance, Irrigation, Agriculture, Oil and Gas, Leather, Public Health, etc from all the provinces of the country. At this occasion, Khurshid Ahmad, General Secretary of the federation presented a detailed report about the activities of the federation during the year and challenges being faced by the working class to achieve their economic and social rights. He urged them to forge unity in their ranks and continue struggle with the cooperation of other patriotic forces of the country to establish an egalitarian society. The Conference was also addressed by the representatives of the workers including Ch Talib Nawaz, President, Zahoor Awan, Deputy General Secretary, Osama Tariq, General Secretary Central Region, Haji Muhammad Ramzan Achakzai, General Secretary Balochistan Region, Abdul Latif Nizamani, General Secretary Sindh Region, Mr. Tanveer Ahmed, General Secretary Karachi Region, Abdul Hameed Ahad, NWFP, Muhammad Yaqoob, Bannu, Muhammad Yasin and Mian Rehman Ghani, Islamabad, Sajjad Baloch, Multan, Mian Shahbaz Ahmad, Faisalabad, Gull Badshah, Bannu, Rana Hassan, (PTCL), Muhammad Jamil (BATA), Munir Butt (Textile), Asif Dar (United Bank, Jalil Shah (Karachi Port Trust). The conference in a resolution vehemently demanded to check sugar mafia and other monopolistic forces and recover the waived off loans.
