Industry captains in education

Majid Haji Muhammad, President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), has taken the initiative to launch a campaign for adoption of the Sindh Madrasatul Islam, the Quaid's alma mater by the KCCI. I fully endorse this idea since this landmark educational institution needs a complete physical, financial, and academic restructuring in order to maintain itself and be true to its motto of "Enter to learn, go forth to serve", a slogan immortalized by one pupil of the school named Muhammad Ali Jinnah. I have had the honor of being the only KCCI President to be invited as the chief guest at any annual function of the school in its 125-year history. I would urge that KCCI should set up a renovation fund as well as an endowment fund to enable the students of this school to obtain quality education in a befitting environment of facilitation. I appreciate the vision of the KCCI President who declared that the Chamber would invest in the school to gradually convert it into a world class university with modern curriculum and latest educational infrastructure. I wish to suggest to the Sindh Governor and Chief Minister to issue directives to the concerned authorities so that Pakistan's premier Chamber is able to adopt this school as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives. -MAJYD AZIZ, Karachi, December 2.
