MIANWALI - Unknown terrorists blew up a police checkpost in Mianwali, killing nine police officials in the wee hours of Saturday. At about 3:30 am two unknown assailants started firing with heavy arms at a police checkpost in Qudratabad in Mianwali when they were intercepted by ISI Sher Khan and head constable Zafar Iqbal. The attackers first gunned them down and then blew up the checkpost with explosives. As a result, seven policemen were killed. Funeral prayers of all the martyred cops were offered at Police Line Mianwali. A large number of people attended their Namaz-e-Janaza. This is the second incident of blowing up of police checkposts as two days ago, unknown assailants destroyed a police checkpost at Darra Tang by firing four rockets. APP adds: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Saturday condemned the attack on a police post in Mianwali in which several policemen lost their lives. The President and the Prime Minister in their separate messages expressed their strong indignation at the act and reiterated the resolve that the government would not bow down by such attacks. President Zardari said the operation against the militants and miscreants in Swat and other areas would continue till their elimination. Prime Minister Gilani said the writ of the government would be established at all costs and the government could not be forced to stop its operations. The two leaders paid rich tributes to the law enforcing agencies and their personnel for their courageous stand against the miscreants and noted that they had rendered numerous sacrifices to bring peace to the restive parts of the country. They prayed to Almighty Allah to shower his blessings on those who embraced martyrdom and for their families to bear the loss with equanimity.
